In Loving Memory

It is with very, heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of IPM’s patriarch, Denis O’Connell.

As one of the original founders of Independent Project Managers, Denis was instrumental in launching the company and building it’s growing portfolio of successfully completed projects. He always fostered a cooperative team approach and his friendly demeanor meant that our Clients trusted him to protect their interests, while at the same time, Contractors knew that they would always be treated fairly. He was well-known, well-liked and highly-respected in the industry.

In addition to the above, Denis made a point of always giving back to the local community. Charitable organizations knew that they could always count on Denis to support their various fundraising events whether it be by a financial donation, auction prize, participation or even just encouraging others to attend or support. Denis truly had a heart of gold and was an example of what we should all strive to be.

Denis, your kindness will never be forgotten by the many whose lives you have touched.

Rest in peace dear friend.

A Grand Opening That is Truly Cause for Celebration!

The staff of Independent Project Managers recently had the pleasure of attending the official grand opening ceremony for The Hope Centre of Durham Region.

The inspiration for this project began several years ago with a vision by four local key Violence Against Women (VAW) service providers – Catholic Family Services of Durham, DRIVEN, Rose of Durham and Luke’s Place. They believed that by sharing a space and working as partners, they could provide a service hub to help the women and children of this community facing domestic and gender-based violence.

In 2017, Catholic Family Services of Durham (CFSD) was awarded major capital funding by the Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services to make this collaborative vision a reality. After much searching, they purchased the building located at 707 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa and begin the renovations required to turn the existing building into a home for all four organizations.

The Hope Centre of Durham Region is now open and offers access to a range of specialty services including therapeutic counselling, risk and safety plans, emergency shelters, young parent support services, child welfare services, court support, legal aid and a host of other community support services for families in need.

IPM is proud to have had the opportunity to assist in making this dream a reality and wish all of you the very, very best in your new home!

Superhero for a Day!

On Sunday, September 29th, staff from Independent Project Managers teamed up with Cambium Inc. to participate in the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation Superhero 4 x 5k Team Relay Challenge at the Purple Woods Conservation Area.

Our team raised a whopping $2600 to help the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation who currently support more than 3,000 vulnerable children and youth in our community.

Thank you Manisha, Shawn, John, and Rob for representing IPM and Cambium at this fantastic community event!

New Independent Retirement Residence Breaks Ground!

On May 4, 2018, the team at Independent Project Managers were proud to be in attendance at the official ground breaking ceremony for the Bartlett Independent Retirement Residence in Oshawa. The event was well attended with dignitaries from several levels of government, the developer and their partners, the design and construction team as well as many others who played a role in bringing this project to fruition.

This new retirement residence will feature 129 barrier free independent living suites spread over five storeys. The ground floor will also offer ample amenity space including a kitchen and dining room, fitness and exercise facilities, hair salon, lounge and a 7,800 sf public medical clinic. The development will feature high-quality, high-end finishes to ensure the utmost comfort of its residents.

In addition, the building’s prime location means the newly renovated Oshawa Centre is just a short stroll away and access to a variety of restaurants and retail establishments is abundant.

Ritson Residence the Star of the Show!

Independent Project Managers had the honour of attending a major media announcement at one of our own projects recently.

On Friday, March 23, 2018, the Governments of Canada and Ontario visited Ritson Seniors Residence located at 1658 Ritson Road North in Oshawa to announce the Governments’ continued commitment to invest in affordable housing for families, seniors and indigenous people.

IPM is very proud to have been the Project Manager for Ritson Residence on behalf of the Owner and Developer, Mahogany Management. It is a beautiful facility that provides a welcoming and safe home to local seniors and promotes a sense of community by way of extensive amenity spaces and a variety of tenant activity programs.

We are also proud to be working with New View Holdings Inc. on another 75 unit affordable housing project on Martin Road in Bowmanville, also highlighted as a project of note during the Governments’ announcement.

We look forward to continuing to work with Developers like Tim Neeb and all branches of the government to ensure safe and affordable housing is available to all in Durham Region!

A New Home for Catholic Family Services of Durham

Catholic Family Services of Durham (CFSD) is a clinical counselling organization that has been providing therapy to the community in Durham Region, regardless of a person’s beliefs, since 1981. They have outgrown their current facilities and are looking to expand to ensure they can continue to provide a high level of care to those requiring their services. Over the course of the last year and a half, IPM has been assisting CFSD to find a suitable location to meet their current and future needs.

Last summer they purchased an existing property in Oshawa that would allow them to partner with four other like-minded community service organizations. This partnership means decreased operating costs for all groups, which in turn, means more dollars available for front line services.

With funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services/Ministry of Children and Youth Services, renovation plans were developed and construction commenced in early 2018. The interior demolition work is now complete and interior renovation work is scheduled to start shortly.

Catholic Family Services of Durham and their partner service providers are looking forward to moving into their new home this coming summer!

It appears that 2018 is shaping up to be a busy year for development in Durham Region as well. CORE21 Evolves to Meet Changing Entrepreneur Needs

CORE21 was launched in 2013 as the area’s first co-working office for busy and creative entrepreneur’s seeking an upbeat and inspiring work environment. Located in the heart of Oshawa’s revitalized downtown area, CORE21 provides 11,000 square feet of versatile work spaces including hot desks, dedicated desks and private offices along with business amenities such as Wi-Fi, a fully equipped communications and copy centre, an event room, various meeting spaces and a lounge area with a wide range of refreshments.

Independent Project Managers was involved in the original conversion of the existing building and assisted CORE21 in ensuring that the “dream” became the “reality” with modern decor, a variety of tenant spaces and large, open, collaborative work areas to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs in our community. Shortly thereafter, IPM assisted CORE21 with the renovation of the second floor to provide even more tenant spaces for their ever-growing Clientele. Four years later, more than 60 entrepreneurs, businesses, start ups, community groups and those needing temporary space on a short or long term basis call CORE21 home.

The goal of CORE21 is to promote a friendly, nurturing, collaborative environment to promote creativity and networking opportunities and CORE21 is passionate about fostering what they call their #COREmmunity. In an effort to meet the ever changing needs of their Clients, CORE21 is evolving once again. Just recently, Independent Project Managers assisted CORE21 to provide five new private offices within the ground floor space and plans may be underway to provide additional options on the second floor as well.

We would like to congratulate CORE21 on their most recent improvements and look forward to continuing to assist them as they grow and evolve in the coming years!
